Here’s an inspiring video from Countryside Montessori School in Northbrook, Illinois. The school is for children ages 2-grade 6. The video gives many clear images of children deeply involved in self-directed work.
While the video is produced for parents considering a Montessori school for their child, the images and words give a clear introduction to Montessori principles and a glimpse of Montessori education in action. Whether you’re interested in enrolling your child in a Montessori school or using Montessori principles at home, there are ideas you can gain from watching the video.

What a beautiful video. I loved the whole video, especially close to the end seeing the older children work on math together.
Great to see children from as young as 2 all the way to grade 6 working so productively!

Thanks for your comment, Jody! I always love seeing Montessori schools with older children, too – although I love seeing Montessori schools at any level! It is amazing to see how the principles can work so well at different ages.

This video was really wonderful! I loved how they taught pre-reading skills early on. It’s such an amazing gift that Montessori allows each child to learn at their own pace, and to focus their learning on what interests them.

Loved this video. Thanks for sharing. I definitely love the peacefulness, inner and outer, of the Montessori classroom. Even though we implement Montessori in the home, we also notice these characteristics within the children. I love Montessori!
