When I was working toward my MA in Early Childhood Studies from Sheffield Hallam University in Sheffield, England, one of my first courses as an international education student was The English Education and Educare System. It was during that course that I discovered Teachers TV.
Videos for Teachers
We Americans tend to overlook some of the amazing educational resources available to us from around the world. Teachers TV has some of the best educational ideas from English education in the form of archived videos.
UPDATE: Sadly, Teachers TV closed. Happily, a few sites offer the Teachers TV videos! Right now, TeachFind has the videos available along with a great search engine. The videos are available worldwide! (If you have difficulty accessing any videos, just switch browsers … Firefox and Google Chrome worked best for me.) TES Connect has the Teachers TV videos available for viewing worldwide along with many printables and other teaching resources. SchoolsWorldTV has a couple of videos and plans to offer the entire Teachers TV video library worldwide soon.
Videos are available in each of the basic stages of English education: Early Years, Primary, and Secondary. The subject areas are English, ICT (Information and Communications Technology), Maths, and Science. There are also videos on assessment, behaviour, bullying, and SEN (Special Educational Needs).
Teachers TV has a number of interesting series, like Early Years in Action. For example, there’s an video that would be helpful for anyone looking for role-playing ideas: Early Years in Action – The Learning Environment. There’s even a video on The Montessori Method.
For primary teachers, there’s a Great Primary Lesson Ideas series with many videos and printable lesson plans. For secondary teachers, there’s a Great Secondary Lesson Ideas series with 32 videos and printable lesson plans. For teachers with older students, Phil Beadle’s Masterclass about Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations is very interesting for both teachers and students. If I weren’t already a Charles Dickens fan, I think I’d become one after a half hour of watching Phil Beadle Teaching Great Expectations. (He even has actors bring the book to life.) Here’s the link to more masterclasses with lots of fascinating content.
I really love having a different perspective, and English education has a lot to offer in many areas. Even though the videos are from a school perspective, many of the ideas can be used in homeschools as well.
Check out the Homeschool Village for other homeschoolers’ fantastic finds.
Thank you for the resource! I’ll have to check that out. I have never heard of Teachers.TV!

Stopping from Mom Loop! This looks like a great resource.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you find some helpful videos at Teachers TV!
Ninth grade was Great Expectations at my high school. I remember we were doing Romeo and Juliet, and I got bored in class. I flipped to the back of the textbook and started reading Great Expectations. I got completely sucked in – I brought it home and stayed up late reading. Then I had to wait another 6 months before we actually covered it in class!
Thanks for your comment! Great Expectations is one of my favorite books! I just had to watch Phil Beadle’s Masterclass about it all the way through. He made it so interesting!
Thanks for visiting me at Doorkeeper. This is a really interesting article. You have a great site! Blessings!
Thanks so much for your kind comment, Renee Ann! Blessings to you, too!

Teachfind is the best UK teaching resource, it brings all the best sites together into a single search engine.
Thanks, Gemma! It looks like TeachFind has done an awesome job of organizing the Teachers TV videos! Unfortunately, those of us outside the UK don’t seem to be able to see the videos. It looks like they are being put together on some sites for worldwide viewing. I’ll update my post with the Teachfind link and the worldwide links!
Hi Deb,
Thanks for looking at this, we’ve just launched our site and all the resources should be available worldwide.
Can you let us know what you tried to access and if there was an error message? We’ll look into it straight away.
Thanks
Thanks, Kerry! I discovered that the problem is Internet Explorer. The videos work perfectly with Firefox and Google Chrome browsers. I’ve added that information to my post in case others have the same problem. It’s wonderful having the videos available! 🙂
Hey Deb, TES Resources now have all of the Teachers TV videos, and I’ve seen comments on their facebook from people who’ve been able to use them abroad.. http://www.tes.co.uk/TeachersTV
Thanks, Kate! The videos even work with Internet Explorer in the US! I was also excited to find so many other free teacher resources, including printables, available through TES Connect just by registering! 🙂
