Free LEGO Printables and 70+ LEGO Learning Activities

June 20, 2013 By Deb Chitwood 53 Comments

My kids had lots of LEGOS when they were growing up. I always thought LEGOS were great for logic, architectural skills, problem-solving skills, and collaborative experiences, although we didn’t use them for focused learning activities. Now there are LOTS of amazing activities online for using LEGOS specifically for hands-on learning activities.

Free LEGO Printables and 70+ LEGO Learning Activities

I love LEGO learning activities any time, but I really appreciate them in the summer as an interest-led way to prevent “summer brain drain.”

Today, I want to share some of those amazing activities. These aren’t all necessarily Montessori-inspired activities, but you can always add an activity to an activity tray or table and color code your activity to fit with traditional Montessori colors if you wish.

Here’s a fascinating post about Montessori and LEGO: Are LEGOS Montessori? by Child Development Institute of the Redwoods

The following LEGO learning activities are organized roughly by subject. Where there are multiple posts, I’m categorizing the posts under the subject of a photo I’m featuring.

What an inspiration post!! I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot! I have done legos for adding, counting and but thanks to this post I realized with my wet erase markers in hand there are so many more options!!

The idea of literally building words and sentences is awesome! I’m so excited about this!!!

Ok, this IS a great idea resource! And I thought Lego was a great way to learn already! I really like the learning to read one as that is also great later on when we have to try and develop kids making sentences on their own. You can have a selection of words that they can piece together themselves. Such good ideas!

Legos are great for preschoolers. These little color blocks, (how great are those colors?) encourage and strengthen your child’s problem solving abilities. Also, I found that when children play together, construction toys open the door for your child’s social interaction and cooperative play. Two skills that help develop positive inner self-esteem.

I love this! My little one loves legos! It is kind of like an obsession for him. =) He also loves math, so I think I can definitely take these ideas and adapt them to my son’s needs. Thank you for all these ideas.

This is an absolute treasure trove of LEGO learning ideas! I had no idea there were so many creative, hands-on ways to incorporate LEGO into math, reading, science, and more. I especially love the measurement and pattern-building activities. My kids are going to be thrilled—and learning without even realizing it. Thank you for curating this!
