Awards to Happily Pass On

August 20, 2010 By Deb Chitwood

I’m honored to have received some WONDERFUL awards during the last month since I received and passed on the Outstanding Blogger Award. I’m SO grateful to have received the Sunshine Award, Versatile Blogger Award, and Wild about Your Blog Award!

For the Sunshine Award and Versatile Blogger Award, I’m supposed to say thanks to the person who gave me the award, share 7 things about myself, and pass on the award to 10-20 bloggers who I have recently discovered and think are fantastic! I’ll pass the Wild about Your Blog Award on to blogs I discovered more than a month ago. I’m going to tell just 7 things total so you’re still awake when I pass on the awards.

First, the 7 things about myself.

1. I’m a book addict! I haven’t been able to part with a lot of the books from raising/homeschooling my children – so I’m ready when grandchildren come along!

2. I have monovision. (I see distance out of my right eye and read with my left eye.) I had laser surgery to correct the extreme nearsightedness in my right eye. My left eye is still extremely nearsighted but works well for reading.

3. I LOVE motivational quotes and enjoy creating digital word art. I also enjoy digital scrapbooking but don’t do it nearly as often as I’d like.

4. I’m like the family paparazzi! I carry a camera in my purse so I’m always ready to take photos.

5. Tuesday night is my favorite night of the week because it’s date night!

6. My husband and I had a sunrise wedding 35 years ago in our best friends’ backyard. It was magical. Their neighbor’s cat agreed (it was there).

7. Both my children received their bachelor’s degrees in the same year and were married within 8 months of each other.

Now, for the thank yous and passing on of the awards!!

I’m going to focus on Montessori/homeschooling/parenting/education blogs today. Even so, I’m only able to award a fraction of the blogs I love. That’s the hard part.

Thank you SO much, Sunrise Learning Lab!

I’m passing on the Sunshine Award to 10 FANTASTIC blogs I’ve discovered in the last month or so (as alphabetized by my computer)

Homemade Homeschool

Kathy’s Montessori Life

Lego Quest Kids

Little Fingers Big Dreams

Montessori for Learning

Pink and Green Mama

The Activity Mom

The Adventures of Bear

I’m passing on the Wild about Your Blog Award to 25 blogs I’m WILD ABOUT that I’ve been following for awhile. I think I could go on and on naming blogs I’m wild about … but since I’m not allowed to go on forever … here are 25 of my favorites:

You rock, Deb. Thank you so much for including me, I am honored! 🙂
And re: your #4 – as much as I *love love love* our new Nikon (well, almost 2 yrs old new), I don’t love that it’s so BIG. I used to be the paparazzi, but it’s a little difficult when the camera is as big as the purse!

    • Deb Chitwood says

      August 21, 2010 at 10:27 pm

I’m so happy to include you and your awesome blog, Dionna! I know what you mean about the camera size. I normally carry a smaller camera, but on family trips I actually carry around a big Canon camera in a very big purse that I pad with a bubble wrap envelope!

  12. Gigi says

    August 21, 2010 at 7:50 pm

    Deb,

Thank you so much for the award! I had not seen your blog. I can’t wait to explore it as well as the skating one. My children just got into skating and I was considering putting them in ice skating lessons this semester. I personally LOVED and still love to skate so it would be fun for all of us!

I was very happy to give you the award, Gigi – you have a wonderful blog! I love the way you’re using Montessori in your homeschool!

Figure skating is definitely a beautiful sport. You might want to check out the blog of my son and his wife as well. They’re skating coaches in San Diego, and their blog is very informative for figure skaters. It’s at http://ChitwoodSkating.com.

  14. Kim Bauer says

    August 21, 2010 at 12:07 pm

    Hi Deb,
I was just visiting your blog again and noticed that you gave me the Versatile Blog Award. I want to thank you for that. I am honored and flattered to be in such good company.

I think I have mentioned to you before that I am really happy to have found your blog. I can’t believe the parallel path we walk in so many ways. My mother introduced me to Montessori because there was no organized preschool in our town when I was young. My two kid went to Montessori schools and are now homeschooled. I am not raising figure skaters, but a ballerina and pianist.

I still recommend Montessori to everyone who asks my opinion and I just love that you have devoted your blog to sharing insights and information about Montessori to others.

    Thanks again,

    Kim

Thanks so much for visiting, Kim! Your comment had disappeared into the wrong folder, so I didn’t see it until after I went to your blog to let you know about the award. The similarity of our paths is amazing, isn’t it?! I’m happy to pass the award on to you. I think your blog is wonderful!

  15. Martianne says

    August 21, 2010 at 3:53 am

Thank you so much for the sunshine Award and for helping me discover your blog through it. when i read your “about me” section, I smiled and thanked God, knowing that He answered another prayer of mine. Just yesterday, I was thinking more about doing Montessori with my kids: about how to do a fair job of it at home with no formal in-person Montessori training, about how to implement Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and so many other things, about who I might look to as a mentor and guide in all this… I think connecting with you and your blog could really help… Thank you!

    • Deb Chitwood says

      August 21, 2010 at 12:47 pm

Thanks so much, Martianne – and thanks for spreading sunshine in the blogosphere! I love your story and will be happy to help however I can!

Thanks so much for the award! It really made my afternoon! I am also a total bookworm. I saved all of my childhood books, and have them sitting in Georgia’s shelf for when she’s ready. What a money saver to keep the classics!

    • Deb Chitwood says

      August 20, 2010 at 6:33 pm

You’re welcome, Laura! I always love following your blog and your sweet family. I thought I might just have been procrastinating selling our books, but now both my children are already married. So, I’m excited to be ready for grandchildren. What fun it will be to share a love of books with them!
