Ideas from Montessori Schools – Countryside Montessori School

May 20, 2019 By Deb Chitwood

I always love to see Montessori education in action. Here are some inspiring videos from Countryside Montessori School (Countryside Day School) in Northbrook, Illinois. The school is for children 16 months through 8th grade.

The “Learning for Life” video gives many clear images of children deeply involved in self-directed work. While the video is produced for parents considering a Montessori school for their child, the images and words give a clear introduction to Montessori principles and a glimpse of Montessori education in action. Whether you’re interested in enrolling your child in a Montessori school or using Montessori principles at home, there are ideas you can gain from watching the video.

If you’re interested in knowing about all-day, all-year Montessori, Countryside Montessori School has some helpful videos. (Note: I think part 1 was deleted for being too long, but here are parts 2 and 3):

Have fun watching Montessori education in action! 🙂

Loved this video. Thanks for sharing. I definitely love the peacefulness, inner and outer, of the Montessori classroom. Even though we implement Montessori in the home, we also notice these characteristics within the children. I love Montessori! 🙂

Thanks, Susana! I saw those characteristics develop in the children I taught – and in my own children, too! Thumbs up to “I love Montessori!”

This video was really wonderful! I loved how they taught pre-reading skills early on. It’s such an amazing gift that Montessori allows each child to learn at their own pace, and to focus their learning on what interests them.

Thank you for your comment, Laura! So true that it’s an “amazing gift that Montessori allows each child to learn at their own pace, and to focus their learning on what interests them.”

What a beautiful video. I loved the whole video, especially close to the end seeing the older children work on math together.
Great to see children from as young as 2 all the way to grade 6 working so productively!

Thanks for your comment, Jody! I always love seeing Montessori schools with older children, too – although I love seeing Montessori schools at any level! It is amazing to see how the principles can work so well at different ages.
