Montessori-Inspired Printables at Living Montessori Now

My daughter, Chrissy (a former Montessori child), and I have partnered to bring you a series of Montessori-inspired printables. The printables are typically themed and use a number of Montessori principles (although you don’t need to be a Montessori teacher or homeschooler to use them):

• They use isolation of quality.
• They use photographs or realistic images to emphasize reality.
• They typically use traditional Montessori colors such as red for consonants and blue for vowels.
• They emphasize lowercase letters, which are what we introduce letter sounds with in Montessori education. (Children tend to pick up the uppercase letters without being introduced if they’re introduced to the lowercase letter sounds.)
• They often feature themed printable versions of Montessori materials.

Beginning readers can use the puzzles for individual word families, such as –at or -am word families, or a mixture of word families. The 131 puzzles are designed to be easy to cut. All this is only $6.00!

This cursive CVC (3-letter, consonant-vowel-consonant) phonics puzzle set for ages 3-6 has 38 printable pages with a variety of puzzles in each short vowel sound. Beginning readers can use the puzzles for individual word families, such as –at or -am word families, or a mixture of word families. The 131 puzzles are designed to be easy to cut. All this is only $6.00!

Activities Using the CVC Phonics Puzzles

Directions for Using the CVC Phonics (Simple Word Blending) Puzzles in Print or Cursive

• The vowels for the phonics puzzles are in an order commonly used by Montessori teachers. The first puzzles will generally have letters that Montessori children have been exposed to the most.
• You may want to use puzzles from one word family (such as the –at word family) for the newest readers.
• Use as many puzzles as your child/ren would find challenging but not too frustrating. 4-10 puzzles at a time will generally be good.
• Feel free to combine two or more word families. For more advanced readers, you can mix puzzles from any of the word families. Change out the puzzles you’re using as your child/ren progress in reading skills.
• Introduce the Montessori blue series and then green series after the pink.

This is not the complete pink series. It’s a fun way to give beginning readers extra practice blending 3-letter words.

This is my 4-year-old grandson, Caleb, working with a variety of the short letter a puzzles. He can read well, so this wasn’t difficult for him. He thought it was fun, though, and it gave him an extra way to practice his reading skills.

When he finished, he tried to make as many of the words as he could with the LITTLE BUD KIDS Spin-and-Read Montessori Phonetic Reading Blocks and CVC Phonics Wooden Toy Set. This set is priced amazingly well, and it’s a fun addition to our Montessori language work! Of course, the Montessori movable alphabet is always great to add to this type of work!
