20 Pumpkin Phonics Activities

September 19, 2014 By Deb Chitwood

Since pumpkins are so much fun in the fall, here are some pumpkin activities to add hands-on fun to phonics! You’ll find lots of great ideas here for reinforcing phonics skills in the fall.

20 Pumpkin Phonics Activities

Montessori Phonics

Phonics is a very important part of the Montessori language curriculum. Note: In Montessori education, we teach phonetic sounds before letter names. For any of the activities below, I would emphasize the letter sounds. Also, if you want to follow Montessori tradition, make the letters lowercase for your activities. Of course, set up your activities however works best for you and your child or students. You can learn more about Montessori phonics through the links in this post: DIY Beginning Montessori Phonics for Preschoolers. Even though not all the activities featured here were intended to emphasize phonetic sounds rather than letter names, they can easily be taught in that way using techniques from this post: Inexpensive and DIY Sandpaper Letters.
