Montessori Monday – Montessori-Inspired Moon Unit

Montessori-Inspired Moon UnitA moon unit is great at any time, but this week is an especially good time to study the moon. July 16, 1969, was the liftoff of the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing Mission. July 20 is the anniversary of the first walk on the moon.

I’ve published some astronomy posts before: ABC Letter Box and Astronaut Unit, Montessori-Inspired Astronomy Activities, and Montessori-Inspired Star and Constellation Unit. You’ll find lots of great astronomy activities there.

Here, I’ll list some specific Montessori-inspired moon unit studies along with some Montessori-inspired moon activities that have been published since my earlier posts.

This is perfect. I love all the different ideas. I have seen the Oreo phases idea before and plan on using it when we get to the Moon unit in My Father’s World Kindergarten. But there are some great new ideas here.
I actually used cheese to make the moon phases in last week’s outer space muffin tin (if you would like to take a look- http://totsandme.blogspot.com/2012/07/muffin-tin-monday-outer-space.html

    I pinned this post!
I hope it is okay that I linked up my new post on the Feel and Find game that we reviewed for the Back to Preschool Blast.

Wow! Perfect timing and you didn’t even know it!

Ramadan is actually about to start (this weekend) and sighting the new moon is an important part of this holy month for Muslims around the world. I’m planning a post about Ramadan later this week. Would you mind if I linked to this post?

    Thanks so much!

I’m about to have my second child – a beautiful baby girl, I hope – and my brother sent me the link to your site.

Such a forward-thinking approach to a childs education. I’ll most certainly be reading more about Montessori for when I welcome my little angel into our lives!

    Mila xx
