Celebrating Grandmotherhood, the World’s Best Job

May 11, 2014 By Deb Chitwood 4 Comments

Celebrating Grandmotherhood, the World's Best JobHappy Mother’s Day to the wonderful mothers around the world! I’m excited to celebrate my first Mother’s Day as a grandmother! My granddaughter was born on November 2, 2013, and my life hasn’t been the same since. My husband and I even moved from Colorado Springs to San Diego to be close to our children and granddaughter … one of the best moves we ever made.

The World’s Best Job

Thank you to my awesome son and daughter-in-law for giving me the world’s best job … being a grandma. I’m borrowing the phrase “world’s best job” in reference to grandmotherhood from a book with the title Grandma Rules: Notes on Grandmotherhood, the World’s Best Job. I haven’t read the book, but it looks like a fun read.

For me, grandmotherhood is definitely the world’s best job. What other job gives such tremendous joy and satisfaction without huge responsibilities or pressure? Grandmothers don’t even have to give up the status of motherhood … we still get to enjoy our children. And with both our children and grandchildren, the pay is perfect. As one of my favorite quotes about motherhood says: “Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs… since the payment is pure love.” Mildred B. Vermont

Congratulations, Deb, on your first Mother’s Day as a mom and grandma! How exciting :). Our son made grandma a special gift this year (first year he’s been old enough to take an active interest 😉 ).
