I’ve had a number of readers ask about Montessori elementary education for homeschoolers. While Karen Tyler offers a wonderful online training to teach children ages 2 ½ -6, there wasn’t a similar inexpensive option for the elementary level.
Now Jessica Welsh, an Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) certified primary and elementary teacher is providing training for parents and teachers who aren’t able to take a traditional Montessori training course for certification. (Note: if you aren’t familiar with AMI, the organization was started by Dr. Montessori herself, and it’s the Montessori training program considered most authentic).
Keys of the Universe is an AMI-based online elementary Montessori training program primarily for homeschoolers (and open to anyone who works with children at the elementary level). While the program doesn’t give AMI certification, it does give you the opportunity to learn how to teach your children at home using AMI-based teaching methods and albums.

The Keys of the Universe training covers ages 6-12, which is especially nice. Typically, one elementary Montessori training course covers ages 6-9 and another course is required to cover ages 9-12. This course can also be completed at home over 8 or 16 months, depending on which option you choose. You’ll receive Jessica’s AMI-based training albums as part of the course.

- Private online support for 150% the length of your course

We don’t currently homeschool our boys, but we have in the past and I believe we will in the near future. My older son was a formal Montessori student from 18 months – 5 years old and is now 8 years old. While I feel reasonably confident I could instruct my younger son using Montessori methods, I don’t feel that way about my elementary aged son. I would love to win this wonderful giveaway because I currently homeschool our daughter who is fast-approaching elementary age. We currently incorporate Montessori-inspired work in and out of our school. But as I begin preparing our environment for “elementary”, I really struggle with finding/deciding appropriate level material as she grows closer to that age. To win would give me the tools required to continue our homeschooling in the way my daughter loves to learn and my family loves to teach.

I have three children (8,6,2). Montessori is not available in our area, I would have to travel 8 hrs one way, so on-line is our only option. I would like to make Montessori my families life long learning style but need more direction to be able to do so, this would be an absolute blessing for my family and our community.
