Books and Montessori Activities Using Printables for Pi Day

Books and Montessori Activities Using Printables for Pi Day

I set up activities using just a few printables from the Pi Day Pack and two books. For Pi Day and whenever we study fractions, I love to get out Gator Pie. I still have a copy from when I homeschooled my now-adult kids. They loved the book, and all three of my grandkids love it! It’s not a Montessori-style book, but it’s so much fun with alligators dividing up a pie. It’s super fun to read and listen to! Unfortunately, the book is out  of print, although you can get a used copy of Gator Pie through Amazon.

Right now, I just use Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi with my 7-year-old granddaughter, Zoey. She loves the book!

The circle, sphere, and cylinder sorting activity uses the sorting cards from Every Star Is Different along with the circle inset and natural wood geometric solids for sphere and cylinder from Alison’s Montessori.

I made the parts of a circle nomenclature and description cards into a booklet to go with the  parts of a circle activity.

The “What Is Pi?” visual is from the Montessori-Inspired Pi Day Printable Pack, too!

There are so many fun activities for preschoolers. You can choose from do-a-dot printables, pi vs. pie activities, counting pies, color sorting, and circle, sphere, and cylinder sorting.

Working with π equals 3.14 Q-Tip Painting

Working with π equals 3.14 Q-Tip Painting

I printed out the q-tip printables for π equals 3.14 for my just-turned-3-year-old grandson, Caleb, to focus on the fine-motor activity of q-tip painting. I just said that the pi symbol was a different kind of pi. For young preschoolers, I typically focus simply on circles or  pies for Pi Day unless I introduce the symbol for pi, like I did with Caleb.

My 3-year-old granddaughter, Sophia, worked with the circle, sphere, and  cylinder sorting cards.

Zoey worked with the circumference, diameter, and radius parts of a circle. She enjoyed adding the cut-out  printables to the blank circles. It was a great hands-on activity for focusing on circumference, diameter, and radius.

There are so many more activities in the Pi Day Printable Pack, and some of them are very advanced. It’s an amazing pack that can be used for years and years!
