Montessori Monday – DIY Dressing Frames and Alternatives

Activities for care of self are a very important part of the Montessori curriculum. They’re especially important for helping children develop both coordination and independence. At the same time, dressing frames are often among the least-popular materials in Montessori schools.

While the dressing frames are still important for Montessori schools, there are DIY versions and alternatives that work well for homeschools and other preschools. This is an area where you can easily save some money and get the same results!

    Hi Deb,
I love the dressing frames! I find that the kids in my school go through phases – sometimes they are flying off of the stand and other times, they aren’t used as much. Personally, the bow tying frame is my favorite! :) Thanks for sharing all of these wonderful ideas.

Thanks, Sasha! The bow tying frame is my favorite, too. I love that there are such great alternatives to the dressing frames now … a lot of them more appealing to kids than the actual dressing frames! :)

I love the DIY ideas! There are so many materials I never would have thought to try my hand at making, but that can obviously be done quite well. Dressing frames are definitely in that category. These are awesome!

We’re on sort of the same page today, as I posted about teaching our toddler to put on a coat and some related activities on getting dressed.

I love the idea of the button snakes. I had not seen those before. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, how I wish now my daughter attended a Montessory preschool! She would learn some very valuable skills that now she has to quickly master in Kindergarten.

Thanks for your comment, Natalie! Montessori really is great at preparing kids for future experiences. Fortunately, you can do a lot at home to prepare your daughter, too. :)
