Practical life is one of the most important areas of toddler and preschool education. And music and movement are two of my favorite activities to share with toddlers and preschoolers. So, why not combine all three into a super-fun cleaning, movement, and music appreciation activity?
Fun with Cleaning, Movement, and Music Appreciation – YouTube Video
My 3-year-old granddaughter, Zoey, shows how much fun she had with our “Skater’s Waltz” cleaning, movement, and music appreciation activity!

I always thought the cleaning mop slippers I saw on Amazon looked like fun. So I finally ordered a pair for me and a pair for Zoey. I haven’t seen them in kid sizes, so I just ordered some and pinned them with a safety pin to fit on Zoey’s feet. If you don’t mind spending more time, you could use Velcro or even prepare holes for laces. I don’t see the ones we have on Amazon now, so I’ll let you choose from the available cleaning mop slippers.
In case you’re wondering, Zoey’s outfit is from Gymboree, my favorite place to buy kids’ clothes!
Zoey and I had previously had lots of fun with paper plate ice skating to “The Skater’s Waltz” using Carolyn’s lesson at Magical Movement Company. Zoey had enjoyed that lesson so much that we had spent almost an hour “skating” to a variety of classical music.
So I wanted to extend that lesson with a fun practical life activity of washing the floor.
For music, we listened to “The Skater’s Waltz.” Here are a few YouTube videos I like:
Cleaning, Movement, and Music Appreciation Combined!

Skating to “The Skater’s Waltz” in Cleaning Mop Slippers
First, we played the music. Then we got the cleaning mop slippers wet and ready to wash the floor! Since there are both slow and fast sections in “The Skater’s Waltz,” Zoey practiced both tempos.

Having Fun Washing the Cleaning Mop Slippers
Of course, Zoey washed her cleaning mop slippers at the end. That’s always half the fun!
This is really fun for adults and kids to do together. Zoey and I both did some mop slipper cleaning … and my floors are now sparkling clean!

Montessori Monday Link-Up
Except for content, this is a no-rules linky. If you have some Montessori-inspired activity trays/lessons to share, please link up below. They can be for home or classroom. It’s fine to link up a post from your archives – and you may link up anytime during the week! Your post may be any Montessori-inspired activity or idea. It doesn’t need to be related to my Montessori Monday post.
If you’re wondering what’s considered “Montessori inspired” and what to link up (or not link up), check out my “What Is Montessori Inspired?” post. Link up your exact post URL so that we can find your activity if we return to the linky at a later date. Don’t link to giveaway posts (unless the giveaway is only part of a Montessori-inspired post). Giveaways in general should go on my giveaway linky. Also, don’t link directly to products. You can link up a review of a Montessori product or activity post related to a Montessori product.
I publish the Montessori Monday post and linky each Monday morning and keep the linky open throughout the week. I do a lot of sharing on the Living Montessori Now Facebook page from the Montessori Monday link-up. Thanks for participating!
