The Wonderful World of Online Communities

July 6, 2010 By Deb Chitwood

Blogging would seem to be a lonely endeavor. But I’ve discovered that blogging is not an isolated activity. Online, there are numerous communities, friendships, and collaborative efforts.

If we look at how we can best help our own children as well as the world’s children, we all need to work together however we can.

I’ve found some exciting online communities. There isn’t time enough to participate regularly in all the wonderful online communities available. Some I participate in much more regularly than others. But I’m thankful for all of them. I currently have:

    • Pinterest

Follow Me on Pinterest

Of course, Facebook and Twitter are probably my primary forms of social networking. Through both, I can discover new posts and information, make comments, visit with other bloggers, and stay up-to-date on the latest online news.

There are so many positive ways to connect with other blogging moms and with bloggers in general. It’s easy to share information and encourage each other as we try to help our world’s children! 🙂

What are your favorite online communities

Great links! I'll go check some of them out and vote for your blog on PicketFence (I like that site). 🙂

I'd share some, but you've listed the ones I would have listed already.

Hello again! I’m visiting from the Blog Frog Mom Loop Community Comment Follow.

I am in awe! You have discovered quite a bit out there related to Montessori, children, schooling, etc. I really must do the same type of search for the online communities in my niche of the world. I can see, from your results, the benefit of connecting with others of similar pursuits.

    Thanks!

I love that graphic at the top! The internet can be an overwhelming place. It’s always good to find people to connect with—places where you can learn and grow!

Thanks for your comment, Jennifer! I loved finding that graphic at Flickr Creative Commons! It’s interesting how the online communities both overlap and expand. I think they help make the Internet (and the world) seem a bit smaller and friendlier!

WOW! These are def some great communities!!! Love the way you are able to handle all of it! Love your graphic, too!!! How do you do all of this? Do you have specific times you allow yourself? Do you have multiple computers or just one that is SUPER fast?

    • Deb Chitwood says

      November 4, 2010 at 2:21 pm

Thanks, Rebecca! I’m lucky that I have more time available for blogging and networking now that my children are grown. And I did just get a new, much-faster computer (my computer that was almost 10 years old died recently). I still don’t have time to visit all the communities I like nearly as often as I would if I had unlimited time. For parents with children at home, I think you do have to set specific times for blogging and visiting online communities.

Thanks, Lisa! I’ve had such a great time discovering and connecting with these great online communities! Have fun!
