Montessori Education Week Free Peace Lesson

February 25, 2019 By Deb Chitwood 2 Comments

It’s Montessori Education Week! Montessori Education Week promotes respect for children and awareness of the Montessori method.

Oaks Montessori Teacher Education has more information and links about Montessori Education Week.

Montessori Peace Education Activities

The image is from a free peace education lesson (link in the middle of the “How to Do a Montessori Education Week” page. The activity can be used for preschoolers to adults. Click on the link for the complete directions for presenting the peace education lesson.

You’ll see that the lesson recommends starting by listening to peaceful music. You might want to listen to music from my free relaxing music post on my Bits of Positivity blog. Or you might like to use a specific peace song, such as “Light a Candle for peace” from my free peace songs post.

Montessori Education Week Activities and Peace Walk

Peace education is such an important part of Montessori education that it’s a common focus during Montessori Education Week. Some Montessori schools have a peace pole ceremony, a peace quilt, or a “Walk for Peace.”

Springstone Montessori School teaches about Montessori education in their classrooms during Montessori Education Week. The children also discuss what they love about their classroom and talk about their favorite Montessori material. They have an annual peace walk, too.

Some Montessori schools observe a Montessori Moment of Peace on Monday of Montessori Education Week (generally observed at noon wherever you are). Of course, you could observe it any day this week.

Here’s an idea for a  Montessori Moment of Peace from a blog post that’s no longer available:

Montessori Moment of Peace

Observe a moment of silence to respect those who work to bring peace to our world.

You’ll find a variety of ideas on “How to Do a Montessori Education Week” page from Oaks Montessori Teacher Education.

You can also prepare a Montessori peace table, shelf, or tray in your home or classroom in honor of Montessori Education Week. Peace tables and other peace activities are used in many Montessori schools and homeschools.
