Montessori Frog Life Cycle Activities for Toddlers and Preschoolers

June 17, 2015 By Deb Chitwood

Montessori frog life cycle activities can be fun for toddlers as well as preschoolers. My 19-month-old granddaughter has been in love with frogs lately. She adores the miniature frog in our beginning sounds object game, and she’s fascinated with three small frog lawn ornaments on a neighbor’s front lawn that we pass in our regular walks. So I put together a frog life cycle tray for her.

It’s best to start any zoology activity by observing the live animal if possible. If you have access to frogs or can make a trip to the pond, that’s great! If you can grow your own frogs, that’s even better!

For work materials at home or in the classroom, I love the toddler frog life cycle materials available inexpensively from Montessori Print Shop. They have high-quality photographs that are perfect for showing the frog life cycle. I used the Toddler Frog Life Cycle Book and Toddler Frog Life Cycle Cards.

A Montessori frog life cycle game is especially fun for toddlers.

I think the toddler frog life cycle materials are great for preschoolers, too. Montessori Print Shop has additional frog materials for preschoolers that work well for any frog work.

Montessori Frog Life Cycle Activities for Toddlers and Preschoolers – YouTube Video

In this video, my adult daughter, Christina (a former Montessori child), shows a way to present the life cycle of a frog for toddlers and young preschoolers. She also shares some frog life cycle activities with her niece/my granddaughter, Zoey.

Note: We’d love it if you’d “like” the video and subscribe to our YouTube channel!

I have the wooden life cycles board from WonderYearsPlay on Etsy. I have the one that has 4 stages on one side and 5 stages on the other side. I like that, since it’s adaptable for most Safari Ltd. life cycle figures but only requires one board.

I used the Safari Ltd. Frog Life Cycle figures. They also coordinate with the alphabet cards in our pack.

I have a new themed alphabet card set each month now, and each set is very adaptable. You can use them for activities such as matching the letters with sandpaper letters to matching print to cursive letters to spelling words with the alphabet cards used as a themed movable alphabet.

I love this sweet little video and hearing Zoey say the different names of the life-cycle of a frog. Super cute! I also love the printables. I need to print those off for an added activity to our frog unit. 🙂

Such a great example for those using Montessori at home. I love how she cleans up at the end. And her speech is just wonderful. Thank you for sharing her with us! Pinning this for sure!

Learning is always so easy and fluid when we follow the child’s interests! My favorite part of the video is when Zoey cleans up! LOL 🙂 I love MPS printables too, we used it for our Snails study, and I’m always blown away by how much my 3 year old can absorb. In Zoey’s case, 19 month old, but never too young to learn!

I love how you observe your granddaughter’s interests so closely, and are always sure to follow her lead when creating activities for her. You’re such a great example of how to follow the child, no matter their age or ability! My favorite picture in the post is of your granddaughter concentrating so hard, as she matches up replicas to the life cycle cards!
