We want our kids (and grandkids) to be as healthy as possible. But it can be challenging to find recipes that are nutritious yet still delicious for kids’ tastes. Fruit smoothies can be perfect ways to get kids excited about eating healthy foods. My 3-year-old granddaughter, Zoey, loves smoothies. She had fun learning how to make a super-healthy and super-yummy strawberry pineapple smoothie. Guess what! It tastes delicious even if you’re not a great fan of pineapple.

Our Food Preparation Activities
I’ve talked before about the food allergies in our family. This strawberry pineapple smoothie works perfectly for everyone in our family. It was created by my husband! And any fruit can be substituted if you prefer a different flavor. We make vegan smoothies, but you can use dairy milk and whey protein if you prefer.
Zoey and I have lots of fun with food preparation activities. Zoey has experience measuring, pouring, and stirring from previous practical life and baking activities as well as making playdough together. Zoey wears the apron from the Montessori By Mom Helping Hands Toolbox for our food preparation activities. We use the Learning Tower so that Zoey can safely and comfortably reach everything.
How to Make a Super-Healthy and Super-Yummy Strawberry Pineapple Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1½ cups soymilk (more if preferred)
- 1 level scoop vegan protein powder or whey powder
- 10 ounce bag frozen pineapple
- 10 ounce bag frozen strawberries
Instructions:
- Pour soymilk into blender.
- Add protein powder.
- Add half the frozen pineapple and blend.
- Add the rest of the frozen pineapple and blend.
- Add half the frozen strawberries and blend.
- Add the rest of the frozen strawberries and blend .
- Push down mixture and/or add more soymilk as needed for blending.
This is a simple and fun recipe for kids to make. Zoey definitely had fun with it.
Starting the Smoothie by Pouring in the Soymilk
First, Zoey poured in the soymilk. These sorts of activities are the best real-life pouring activities!
Checking out the Soymilk and Vegan Protein Powder
We use vegan protein powder, although whey powder will work well, too.
Pineapple Tasting
Tasting is always a big part of our food preparation activities! First, Zoey tasted the frozen pineapple.
Laughing at the sound of the blender.
Zoey thought the blender sounded funny … like a motorboat. We have a Vitamix, which works well even with the thickest smoothies. (We often have smoothies!) You might have to add more soymilk or push the fruit down more if you have a different type of blender.
After adding the first half of pineapple pieces and blending, Zoey added the rest of the pineapple pieces and blended again.
Tasting the Pineapple Smoothie
Then it was time to taste the pineapple smoothie. Zoey liked it already!
Strawberry Tasting
Next, it was time to taste a frozen strawberry.
Adding Frozen Strawberries to the Smoothie
Zoey added half the strawberries to the smoothie ingredients and blended.
Watching the Strawberries Get Blended into the Strawberry Pineapple Smoothie
I like to add the strawberries after the pineapple because it’s fun to see the yellow turn pink from the strawberries. (The strawberry flavor and color is the predominant one in this smoothie.)
Pushing Down the Ingredients to Blend the Strawberry Pineapple Smoothie
A tool came our Vitamix for pushing down the smoothie as needed. A spoon or another utensil would work, too.
After adding the rest of the strawberries, Zoey completed the blending before tasting the final smoothie.
Enjoying the Strawberry Pineapple Smoothie … Mmmm
The strawberry pineapple smoothie passed Zoey’s taste test! (I like to make my smoothies thick enough to eat with a spoon, but you can make them as thick or thin as you wish.)
