Montessori-Inspired Easter Activities

I always love seasonal Montessori-oriented activities because of the added interest. Now is a great time to put out Easter activities, and there are lots of wonderful Montessori-inspired Easter activities available online. The activity in the photo (Easter Egg Sound Set from Kerri at Elle Belle’s Bows) is a fun twist on Montessori sound boxes.

The sound set in the photo was designed for a 2-year-old and is a great idea for young children. Kerri also has creative ideas for materials to put in a 12-piece set.

To avoid difficulties with your child trying to match the colors, you could create a set similar to one in the following photo.

Easter Egg Sound Set with Six Pairs

Easter Egg Sound Set with Six Pairs

I created the above set using the principles of the traditional Montessori sound boxes, which have six sound cylinders with red tops and six sound cylinders with blue tops. The eggs won’t be as colorful as a multi-colored set but will isolate the difficulty in the matching of sounds.

    Hi Deb,
I love the egg sound set! I’d like to make them for our atrium. I like your two color set – do you have some control of error built into it or any recommendations for how to add it? Also, would you recommend taping the eggs shut? Is it possible to look inside the Montessori sound set or is it a closed system?
Thanks for all of your great ideas!

Thanks for your kind comment, Leslie! That’s a great idea for your atrium! You could have matching dots at the bottom of each pair, although it’s a control of error that there will be eggs that don’t match in sound at the end if they aren’t matched correctly. If you leave the eggs unsealed, the child can check inside the eggs at the end as well.

The Montessori sound set is a closed system, but I like the idea of looking inside the eggs. You can always seal the eggs with tape, velcro, or a hot glue gun if you wish. Have a blessed Lent and Easter season!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these ideas!! Our Cubbies program just ended last week…I’m so sad. I could have used so many of your ideas!! Oh well, maybe next year!

I’ve linked lots of posts at the Hop, but today I linked up a Hip Homeschool DAD post!! I linked a wonderful post by my co-blogger, Arby, at The Homeschool Apologist! If you wouldn’t mind, could you stop by and let him know that HIP homeschoolers can be moms or dads!! :-) He’s probably gonna be mad I did this to him, so it might not hurt if you mentioned what a GREAT blogging partner he has! :-)

That’s a very creative game. Even though my kids are older I think they would have fun with it.
