How to Make a 100 Hearts Sensory Bottle (100 Hearts Calming Bottle)

Whether you’re celebrating the 100th Day of School, 100 Acts of Kindness, or Valentine’s Day, making a 100 hearts sensory bottle (100 hearts calming bottle) can be a great addition to your activities.

We made our 100 hearts sensory bottle as an extension for our 100 Acts of Kindness Challenge.

Materials Used

  • Voss 11.2 oz. bottle
  • ½” Acrylic Rhinestone Hearts (I got 300 pink and red ones to use for a variety of activities.)
  • Distilled Water
  • Clear Hair Gel (Clear glue could be used instead of hair gel.)

This was amazingly easy to do! I added the hair gel to a water bottle ¾ full of distilled water. I used (maybe) ½ cup or so of hair gel. It really depends on how quickly you want the acrylic hearts to fall slowly to the bottom (or whether you mainly want them to float). You can easily adapt the movement of the hearts by adding more water or hair gel as needed.

My daughter, Christina, and her 23-month-old son, Caleb, completed the sensory bottle together. Caleb loves learning Spanish, so they focused on 1-20 in Spanish as Caleb placed the hearts in the bottle that was already filled with the water and hair gel. Then Caleb added hearts from groups of 10 hearts.

You could add glitter or confetti, too, but I just wanted to keep the focus on 100 hearts.

Mixing the 100 Hearts Sensory Bottle Ingredients to the Song "Shake, Shake, Shake" by Nancy Kopman

Caleb mixed the ingredients by shaking the bottle to the song “Shake, Shake, Shake” (one of my grandkids’ favorites) from Nancy Kopman’s Senses album! Caleb knows the song well enough that he was singing it on his own! Then we turned on the music, too. This is a fun project for a variety of ages!

Completed 100 Acts of Kindness Chart with 100 Hearts Calming Bottle and Heart Mindful Breathing Board

We now have the 100 hearts bottle as part of our mindfulness area along with a Montessori Mindful Breathing Board from Montessori ReStore on Etsy. We have both heart- and star- mindful breathing boards. I love that the phrase for the heart mindful breathing board is “I am loving. I am loved.” It’s perfect for a mindfulness/peace area for a kindness project, Valentine’s Day, or any time!
