I love putting together fine-motor activities for toddlers …and I love to watch toddlers progress in developing new skills. Today, I’m sharing some toddler fine-motor activities that are simple to prepare using Spielgaben educational toys.

In case you’re not familiar with Spielgaben toys, they are exceptionally high-quality educational toys designed for ages 3-12. You can see from the photo that the cabinet is very high quality and fits in well in a room with traditional Montessori materials. I love the new, easily removable drawers in version 4. The yarn balls from the 1st Spielgaben set can be used with babies and toddlers, too.
The Spielgaben complete set comes with over 700 pages of full-color printed learning materials. These printed materials help you as a parent or teacher easily use Spielgaben toys educationally with your child and/or students.
Spielgaben Materials Used in The Video
My daughter, Christina, and 19-month-old granddaughter (Christina’s niece), Zoey, had fun creating a video using some Spielgaben educational toys.
For the video, we used the Spielgaben rods and dual-side playboard from Version 4 or the Upgrade Kit 4.0 (if you have an earlier version) plus 10 Spielgaben wooden cubes.

Spielgaben Yarn Ball Activities
Spielgaben yarn ball activities can be used to introduce colors to toddlers, but they’re also wonderful for developing fine-motor skills. I’ve prepared a number of yarn ball activities using DIY gift bags. Here’s one of the activities that was a favorite of Zoey.

Here’s another of the yarn ball activities Zoey loves: octopus and yarn ball color matching. It’s great for fine-motor development, too, as she works to place a “head” on each octopus. You’ll find the activity in this post: Montessori-Inspired Summer Activities with Spielgaben {Free Printables}
Other Toddler Fine-Motor Activities with Spielgaben
Most of the Spielgaben toys are wonderful for developing fine-motor coordination along with many other skills. You’ll find lots of appropriate activities in the links below.
With a toddler, you’ll just need to find activities that fit your child’s skill level … and, especially, activities that are safe for your toddler. If your toddler still mouths objects, I recommend focusing on yarn balls and the longest rods with playboard (as shown in the video). You can use some of the other materials if you constantly supervise your toddler and place the toys up out of reach after you finish working with your toddler. Be sure that your toddler only uses the other toys independently if your toddler no longer mouths objects.

Version 4 of Spielgaben Educational Toys
I highly recommend Spielgaben as an amazing educational material for home or school. Even though the toys aren’t inexpensive, they’re definitely worth the price because of the high quality of materials and number of years your children or students can use them.
