It’s World Ocean Day today! I had a post before on how you can enliven your homeschool with some calendar fun. I like the idea of focusing on a holiday or observance every now and then to add variety to a homeschool or classroom curriculum. The same idea works well in summer for a fun mini unit.
Even if you don’t have time to observe World Ocean Day today, you can always pick a day next week and say the activities are in honor of World Ocean Day June 8. Here are some Montessori-inspired ocean resources:
Montessori-Inspired Ocean Printables
Endangered Ocean Animals for ages 3-9 from Montessori Helper – available for a dime throughout June
Parts of the Turtle Cards for ages 6-9 from Montessori Helper – available for a dime throughout June (World Turtle Day was May 23, but the cards would work well for an ocean unit, too.)
Endangered Species Cards for ages 3 to 9 from Montessori Helper – available for a dime throughout June (June 5 was World Environment Day, so you could observe that, too.)

Jellyfish Nomenclature Book (Image from Montessori Print Shop)
Marine Life Cards, Marine Invertebrate Cards, Vertebrates – Fish Cards, Jellyfish Nomenclature Book, Starfish Nomenclature Book, Animal Habitat Cards available inexpensively, and free Ocean Labels from Montessori Print Shop
Free Seashell Cards from Desert Crafter
Free Montessori Ocean Animals Matching Game from The Helpful Garden
Free Comprehensive Ocean Curriculum Handouts from American Montessori Society
Montessori-Inspired Ocean Activities
Montessori-Inspired Beach Language Activities (my May 15 post at PreK + K Sharing with Montessori-inspired ideas for beach activities indoors or outdoors)
Montessori at the Beach: Numbers and Counters (my post which includes a beach seashell hunt)

Ocean Unit Study Pinterest Board
I have an Ocean Unit Study Pinterest board with ocean activities of all types and for many different levels. They’re not all Montessori-inspired, but there are many wonderful activities that could work well in a Montessori-inspired ocean unit.
Do you plan to observe World Ocean Day or have a ocean unit study this summer?

Nicely done blog and website Deb. I homeschooled my son (he’s now 35) and it would have been great to have this kind of resource at the time. Thank you for visiting my blog and following me. I’m following you back. Blessings, Nancy
