Montessori Money Printables for Preschool Through Early Elementary

November 30, 2021 By Deb Chitwood Leave a Comment

I love to find new ways to teach about money in the classroom or at home. I’m excited about the possibilities in the Montessori money printables for preschool through early elementary from Every Star Is Different! Montessori Money Printables for Preschool Through Early Elementary

Disclosure: I’ve been given a copy of these materials to review. My opinions are honest and my own. This post contains affiliate links (at no cost to you).

Here are the U.S. Money Printables Available in the Money Bundle for Beginners from Every Star Is Different:

All activities include the option of using cards with the dollar sign or those with a cents sign.

What I love is that these printable packs can be used together to create various activities comparing coins.

There are 4 printable packs in the Money Bundle for Beginners: (Note: You can get links to each of the individual printable packs through this link.)
– U.S. Coins: Pennies Printable Pack
– U.S. Coins: Nickels Printable Pack
– U.S. Coins: Dimes Printable Pack
– U.S. Coins: Quarters Printable Pack

Montessori-Inspired Money Activities Using the Printables from Every Star Is Different

I’ve loved all the materials I’ve used from Every Star Is Different.

You can take activities from different printable packs and combine them to create new activities, and many of the activities are designed for use with real coins. You can also use this bundle to teach counting and skip counting. I love the idea of using a number of the printables for farmer’s market or other shop activities!

My grandkids have already had a lot of fun with the money printables! Here’s a bit about how we’ve started using the printables.

U.S. Coins: Pennies Printable Pack

Montessori-Inspired U.S. Coins - Pennies Printable Pack from Every Star Is Different

  • Teaches counting skills in a way that appeals to young learners.
  • Helps children transition from counting to understanding the value of a money with the cent sign dollar sign, and decimal.
  • Incorporates the penny into simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division concepts.
Finding 10 Pennies and Placing Them on Counting Pennies Nomenclature Cards

Finding 10 Pennies and Placing Them on Counting Pennies Nomenclature Cards

We started our work with the Every Star Is Different money printables by having almost-4-year-old Sophia and 3½-year-old Caleb find and count out 10 pennies onto the counting pennies nomenclature card for $0.10. Note: the purple bank box belonged to my daughter, Chrissy (Caleb’s mom), when she was a girl. It’s been very popular with my grandkids!

Then my 8-year-old granddaughter, Zoey, set up a shop with the Item and Penny Matchup Cards and Matching Items. She had a bell for Caleb and Sophia to ring when they came to the counter. They had to give her the correct amount of pennies, which she counted into the cash register … the Coin Manipulation Board from Mirus Toys shop (also available on Etsy), which I reviewed recently.

Purchasing a Key with Dimes

Purchasing a Key with Dimes

After the work with the penny object cards, Zoey set out more products … a variety of small objects on different nickel and dime nomenclature cards. Caleb and Sophia came to the counter, chose their item, and gave Zoey the correct number of nickels or dimes. Then Zoey counted the money into the “cash register” (coin sorting board from Mirus Toys). They all had fun!

Working on Skip Counting by 10s Using Dimes

Caleb has been working with the hundred board, and this was a perfect extension for the next day. He first placed 10 dimes on the $1.00 dime nomenclature card. Then he counted them out by 10s onto the Skip Counting by 10s Using Dimes printable.

U.S. Coins: Quarters Printable Pack

Montessori-Inspired U.S. Coins - Quarters Printable Pack

  • Teaches skip counting by twenty-fives using quarters.

We’ve just begun to use the printables in the bundle, and there are so many more great activities! I’m looking forward to using more of the printables … and seeing what other money-related activities my grandkids come up for them, too!

There are 402 pages of printables in the Money Bundle for Beginners. You can get the bundle (when it’s available) or the individual money printable packs through the link.
